633 King Street West, Toronto, ON
My daughter brought me here for a late Mother’s Day celebration, as I was away in Cuba on that day.
Ambiance
As I first entered this place I thought, how beautiful it was! Girly, vibrant, alive and just totally me! I loved it here. Everything was pretty. It has a sophisticated feel to it and with the chic and retro modern decor, you feel special and important. ย It is casual Italian dining at its best. Perfect for a special occasion!
At the back, we discovered the Oretta Cafe. They serve all kinds of hot & cold beverages, cookies, pastries, sandwiches and pizza slices. You have the choice of sit and eat, or dash and go. It’s a cute & comfy little cafe.
Upstairs there is a separate dining area, which you can reserve for that more private gathering. It has the view of the lower dining room. It’s beautiful here too.
Foodie
Rutto Pizza $18
Fior di latte, potato, pancetta pecorino, rosemary and topped with eggs. This pizza was really delicious and seasoned perfectly.
Tortellini alla panna $15
Veal stuffed tortellini, cured egg yolk with walnuts. Aaamazing and very filling.
Torta Pasqualina $14
Puff pastry, swiss chard, smoked formaggio, bacon with poached eggs. This was a huge dish and by the time we got around to eating it. We were stuffed. Very tasty dish!
Final Thoughts
Would come back here again to try more stuff from their menu.
Regarding the staff, especially the hostess, was not very welcoming. We had reservations for 11am but arrived early. My daughter called the restaurant and asked whether we can come inside and just chill and wait 30 minutes. She said yes. We proceeded to the front doors and it was locked. We witnessed the hostess glancing at us, as the restaurant is covered to floor to ceiling glass enclosure, but she didn’t motion for us to go around to the back of the building where the cafe is located. She just stood there and pretended not to see us. Seriously, you couldn’t just motion for us to go around? Clearly, this is our 1st visit here. Also the woman who ended up being our server, also saw us by the front door and didn’t do anything. Therefore we just ignored their smiles and fake welcoming attitude and continued our celebration.
This is unfortunate for first impression of Oretta. They are front line staff, and are not congruent to the pleasant, sophisticated and happy restaurant it stands for.
